Materials

Yarn: 100 g sock yarn (fingering) or 150 g light worsted

Needles: US 2.5 DPNs or long circular (magic loop)

Tapestry needle

Scissors

Gauge: 8 sts per inch in stockinette

Size: Adult Medium (adjustable)

Instructions

Cuff

CO 64 sts (or adjust for fit). Join to work in the round.

Work K2, P2 ribbing for 1.5–2” (for ankle socks) or 4” (for crew socks).

Leg

Knit every round until the desired leg length is reached.

Heel Flap

Work heel flap on 32 sts (half).

Row 1 (RS): Sl1, K31.

Row 2 (WS): Sl1, P31.

Repeat Rows 1–2 for 30 rows.

Turn Heel

K17, K2tog, K1, turn.

Sl1, P5, P2tog, P1, turn.

Sl1, K to 1 stitch before gap, K2tog, K1, turn.

Repeat until all stitches are worked.

Gusset

Pick up 15 sts along each heel flap edge.

Resume knitting in the round: instep stitches in stockinette, gusset stitches in decreases.

Decrease every other round: K to 3 before instep, K2tog, K1, work instep, K1, SSK, K to end.

Continue until back to 64 sts.

Foot

Knit even until sock measures 2” less than total foot length.

Toe

Rnd 1: K to 3 before instep, K2tog, K1, K1 SSK, K to 3 before end, K2tog, K1, K1 SSK.

Rnd 2: Knit.

Repeat these two rounds until 20 sts remain.

Graft toe with Kitchener stitch.

Finishing

Weave in ends and block lightly if desired.

For a thicker, cozy sock — use worsted yarn and larger needles.

Adjust stitch count for smaller or larger feet (in multiples of 4).
