Cooking Tip: Don’t Turn Dinner Into a Salt Lick
When I had to travel out of town for a family emergency, a few wonderful women from my church stepped in to cook for my crew. My husband and son were grateful, but also a little… cautious. They’re very used to my cooking.
They made a lovely roast and mashed potatoes. It looked delicious. Smelled even better. But when my husband took that first bite, he said it felt like licking a salt block meant for a horse. Turns out, a few well-meaning cooks had each added salt—without realizing the others already had.
My poor husband spent the rest of the night guzzling water to flush it out… and then making way too many trips to the bathroom.
👉 Tip: When cooking with others, organize your ingredients and track what’s been added. Group all ingredients together at your station. Each time you use something, move it an arm’s length away from the group. If you have mini prep bowls, you can portion ingredients into those ahead of time. If you don’t, that’s fine too—just be intentional about keeping containers separate once used. Your taste buds (and your bladder) will thank you later.
Salt should season the meal—not send everyone running for water. ✨
