The center 168 stitches are where the stitch patterns happen.

Total structure:

Top border: 12 rows

Panel 1: 40 rows (red, moss stitch)

Panel 2: 40 rows (green, diagonal ridge)

Panel 3: 40 rows (cream, moss stitch)

Panels 4–9: repeat those three panels two more times (so 9 panels total = 9 × 40 = 360 rows)

Bottom border: 12 rows

Total rows in the blanket: 12 + 360 + 12 = 384 rows.

Stitch Patterns (with how they’re used)

1. Garter Stitch (borders)

Knit every stitch on every row.

When used in this blanket:

Top border: 12 rows.

Bottom border: 12 rows.

Side borders: first and last 6 stitches of all 384 rows are always knit.

2. Moss Stitch (center of certain panels)

Worked over the 168 center stitches.

Row 1 (right side): K1, P1 across center 168 stitches.

Row 2 (wrong side): P1, K1 across center 168 stitches.

When used in this blanket:

Each moss-stitch panel is 40 rows total.

That means you work Rows 1–2 a total of 20 times for each panel.

3. Diagonal Ridge Stitch (center of certain panels)

Worked over the 168 center stitches.

Row 1: Knit all 168 center stitches.

Row 2: Purl all 168 center stitches.

Row 3: K3, P1 across center 168 stitches.

Row 4: K1, P3 across center 168 stitches.

When used in this blanket:

Each diagonal ridge panel is 40 rows total.

That means you work Rows 1–4 a total of 10 times for each panel (10 × 4 = 40 rows).

Blanket Instructions

1. Cast On and Top Border

With Color A (Red), cast on 180 stitches.

Work 12 rows in garter stitch as follows:

Rows 1–12: Knit all 180 stitches.

At this point you have 12 rows.

2. Panel 1–Red Moss Stitch (Rows 13–52)

Color: stay with Color A (Red).

For all rows in this panel:

Knit the first 6 stitches and last 6 stitches of every row (side borders).

Work moss stitch over the 168 center stitches.

Rows 13–52 (40 rows total):

Odd-numbered rows (RS):

K6, then work Row 1 of Moss Stitch over the next 168 stitches, K6.

Even-numbered rows (WS):

K6, then work Row 2 of Moss Stitch over the next 168 stitches, K6.

You have now completed Panel 1 (rows 13–52).

3. Panel 2 – Green Diagonal Ridge (Rows 53–92)

Switch to Color B (Forest Green).

Rows 53–92 (40 rows total):

Work the diagonal ridge pattern in the center, always keeping the 6-stitch garter borders:

Row 53 (Diagonal Ridge Row 1): K6, knit 168 center stitches, K6.

Row 54 (Row 2): K6, purl 168 center stitches, K6.

Row 55 (Row 3): K6, K3, P1 across 168 center stitches, K6.

Row 56 (Row 4): K6, K1, P3 across 168 center stitches, K6.

Repeat Rows 53–56 a total of 10 times (you have already done them once; repeat that 4-row sequence 9 more times) to reach row 92.

4. Panel 3 – Cream Moss Stitch (Rows 93–132)

Switch to Color C (Cream).

Rows 93–132 (40 rows total):

As in Panel 1, but in cream:

Odd-numbered rows: K6, Moss Stitch Row 1 across center 168 stitches, K6.

Even-numbered rows: K6, Moss Stitch Row 2 across center 168 stitches, K6.

After Row 132, you have finished one full red–green–cream cycle.

5. Panels 4–9 – Repeat the Three-Panel Cycle

Repeat Panels 1–3 two more times in the same order and with the same row counts:

Panel 4: Red Moss Stitch, 40 rows (Rows 133–172).

Panel 5: Green Diagonal Ridge, 40 rows (Rows 173–212).

Panel 6: Cream Moss Stitch, 40 rows (Rows 213–252).

Panel 7: Red Moss Stitch, 40 rows (Rows 253–292).

Panel 8: Green Diagonal Ridge, 40 rows (Rows 293–332).

Panel 9: Cream Moss Stitch, 40 rows (Rows 333–372).

Always keep those 6-stitch garter borders on both sides for every row.

At the end of Row 372, all nine panels are complete.

6. Bottom Border (Rows 373–384)

Switch back to Color A (Red).

Rows 373–384 (12 rows total):

Knit all 180 stitches on every row (full garter stitch).

After Row 384, bind off loosely in knit.

7. Finishing

Weave in all ends.

Block lightly to straighten edges and open the texture.
