Cheddar Bay Biscuits (Red Lobster Copycat Recipe)

There’s nothing quite like pulling a tray of warm cheddar biscuits from the oven and brushing them with garlicky butter while they’re still steaming. These Red Lobster–style copycat biscuits are soft, flaky, and packed with sharp cheddar cheese and a hint of herbs. They come together in minutes, no rolling or cutting required — just drop, bake, and enjoy. Perfect with soups, pasta, or all on their own.

Yield: 10–12 biscuits

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Bake Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

For the biscuits:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 Tbsp baking powder

1 Tbsp granulated sugar

1 tsp salt

1 tsp garlic powder

½ tsp dried parsley

1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

1 cup buttermilk (or whole milk + 1 Tbsp vinegar as a substitute)

½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

For the garlic butter topping:

3 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted

½ tsp garlic powder

½ tsp dried parsley

Pinch of salt

Instructions

Preheat oven:

Set your oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix dry ingredients:

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, garlic powder, and parsley.

Add cheese:

Stir in the shredded cheddar until evenly distributed.

Combine wet ingredients:

In a separate bowl, mix melted butter with buttermilk. Pour into the dry ingredients and stir gently just until combined. (The dough will be slightly sticky — don’t overmix.)

Drop biscuits:

Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop about ¼ cup of dough per biscuit onto the prepared baking sheet.

Bake:

Bake for 12–15 minutes, until golden brown on top.

Make the topping:

While the biscuits bake, melt the butter and stir in garlic powder, parsley, and a pinch of salt.

Brush & serve:

Brush the hot biscuits generously with the garlic butter topping as soon as they come out of the oven. Serve warm.

Pro Tips

Use freshly shredded cheddar for the best melty texture.

Don’t overmix the dough — that’s key to soft, fluffy biscuits.

For extra flavor, brush with a second layer of garlic butter just before serving.

These freeze beautifully. Reheat in the oven at 300°F for 8–10 minutes.

Optional Add-ins

A pinch of cayenne for a little kick.

A sprinkle of Old Bay seasoning in the topping for a true restaurant flavor.

Swap parsley for chives for a fresh twist.

Buttery, cheesy, and irresistibly soft — these biscuits are comfort food perfection. ✨
