The Greatest Gift
I wrote this Christmas song after my stepfather passed away, many years ago. I never imagined how deeply it would resonate with me again when my biological father died unexpectedly in November of 2023. The holidays have a way of magnifying both joy and absence, and these lyrics have become a quiet place for me to sit with that ache. They hold all the love, the memories, and the longing that come with missing someone you wish could still be here to share in the season’s warmth. I'm only now releasing this song because grief changes—as do we all—and this song finally feels ready to breathe beyond my own world. The full recording is now available on all major streaming platforms.
THE GREATEST GIFT
Looking past my dreams
Through the blist'ry white of the snow-kissed trees
I spy a new illusion
Sifting beneath the plight of my reverie
And you might say I'm crazy
Hey, then go ahead and call me strange
But when I hear winter's wind whisper of you
It breathes new life into me again
And, oh, that's the greatest gift to me
Your chair is settled by the fire
And that empty space is nearly deafening
And reminiscent of your smile
To see it again would be like Christmas morning
And you might say I'm crazy
Hey, then go ahead and call me strange
But when I hear winter's wind whisper of you
It breathes new life into me again
And, oh, that's the greatest gift to me
And memories escape you
Before you realize they're long gone
And I can't think of anything
I've remembered for too long
You know, you might say I'm crazy
Hey, then go ahead and call me strange
But when I hear winter's wind whisper of you
It breathes new life into me again
And oh, that's the greatest gift
Oh, that's the greatest gift
Oh, that's the greatest gift to me
