Cooking Tip: A Little Light Goes a Long Way (Even When the Power Goes Out)

One evening, right in the middle of cooking dinner, the power flickered and went out. The sun had already set, and our kitchen fell into pitch-black silence—except for the soft hiss of the gas stove still burning strong.

My husband ran off to find a flashlight. But me? I had a better idea. I grabbed my son’s Harry Potter light-up wand, held it high like a wizard at work, and continued to stir dinner with my free hand. My children thought it was the most magical dinner ever made.

Not everyone has a wand lying around, of course—but that night taught me something simple and clever: always have a small, hands-free light ready for cooking emergencies.

👉 Tip: Keep a headlamp, clip-on light, or battery-operated lantern handy in the kitchen. A headlamp is especially great—it leaves your hands free to stir, season, and work your kitchen magic safely.

Because sometimes, dinner isn’t just about what’s on the stove. It’s about how you handle the darkness.✨
